Niemann-Pick disease type-C (NPC) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease caused by loss-of-function mutations in NPC1 or NPC2 . In NPC patient cells lacking functional NPC proteins, lipids accumulate in lysosomes causing severe lysosomal storage disease.
