<title>Abstract</title> <p>Background <italic>SMAD4</italic>, a tumor suppressor gene, is inactivated or deleted in 60–90% of pancreatic adenocarcinomas (PDA). Loss of SMAD4 allows tumor progression by limiting cell cycle arrest and apoptosis and increasing metastases.
