In Chile, the phytopathogenic bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum was first reported affecting potato plants in 1983 (Ciampi-Panno 1984). R. solanacearum was detected first in the tomato crop by Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero de Chile (SAG) (Acuña 2008).
