Abstract excerpt
Most plants and some fungi accumulate phenols. Two hydroxybenzoic acids, gallic and protocatechuic acids, are abundant in the giant sporangiophores of the zygomycete Phycomyces blakesleeanus, much more so than in the basal mycelium or the culture medium.
