Hyperhomocysteinemia has been reported as an independent risk factor for atherosclerotic cerebrovascular and coronary heart diseases. 5, 10-Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is one of the enzymes responsible for hyperhomocysteinemia.
