Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) plays an important role in vascular lesion formation and possibly the renarrowing process ("restenosis") that occurs after balloon angioplasty. Secreted in a latent form by most cells, TFG-beta requires enzymatic conversion before it is biologically active.
