Erwinia carotovora subsp. atroseptica was mutagenized and assayed for virulence in planta. Those mutants which exhibited reduced virulence (Rvi-) were assayed for growth rate, auxotrophy and extracellular enzyme secretion and seven mutants were found to be wild type for all of these phenotypes.
