Although Pseudomonas aeruginosa chronically colonizes most older patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), bacterial features responsible for its persistence are understood poorly. We observed that many P. aeruginosa isolates from chronically colonized patients were nonmotile and resistant to phagocytosis by macrophages.
