A. 3.54 kb chromosomal fragment of Bacillus subtilis was cloned on the plasmid pBluescript SK(+). The fragment suppresses the repair deficiency of the sbc B15 mutation of Escherichia coli. It is shown that the B. subtilis gene of exonuclease! is expressed in the E. coli cells.
