An important metabolic capability of Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the utilization of host-derived lactate. Two isoenzymes of the membrane-associated, pyridine dinucleotide-independent type of lactate dehydrogenase (iLDH) participate in lactate assimilation, but exhibit distinctive properties.
