An OmpA-deficient mutant of an OmpF/OmpC-free Escherichia coli B strain was selected using phage K3. The mutant strain was characterized by SDS-gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, and electron microscopy. All major outer membrane proteins, including OmpA, were absent.
