The aminoglycoside antibiotic paromomycin is a potentially useful anti-leishmanial chemotherapeutic agent. Resistance to this antibiotic was studied using Leishmania tropica. Promastigotes resistant to 210 micrograms/ml of paromomycin were selected by exposing them to gradual increments of this drug.
