The widespread expression of the Xenopus homeobox gene Xhox3 in zebrafish was performed by microinjection of synthetic Xhox3 mRNA into uncleaved fertilized eggs and resulted in embryos displaying varying degrees of anterior-posterior (A-P) axis disruption.
