It has been suggested that cord blood T cells may be less able to mediate GVHD than marrow-derived T cells due to their naive status. A decreased potential for GVHD may be advantageous for allogeneic transplant, but this benefit might be counteracted by loss of the GVHD associated graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect.
