The effect of matrix nonenzymatic glycosylation on signal transduction and the cellular phenotype was examined. Human microvascular endothelial cells were plated on control or glycated basement membrane-like matrix. Cells exhibited a decrease in their ability to adhere and spread on modified matrix.
