Mutations in the cardiac splicing factor RNA binding motif protein 20 (RBM20) are associated with severe forms of dilated cardiomyopathy. Mutations predominate within the highly conserved RSRSP-stretch and are characterized by a cytoplasmic mislocalization of RBM20.
