Cell tracking with perfluorocarbon (PFC) nanoemulsion (NE) and ¹⁹F MRI has been used in numerous inflammation models, including tumors. After intravenous injection, phagocytic immune cells endocytose NE droplets, producing background-free ¹⁹F images where signal foci quantify inflammation.
