BACKGROUND: Fetal hemoglobin (HbF; α2γ2) induction is a well-established approach for β-hemoglobinopathies, including sickle cell disease (SCD) and β-thalassemia. Decitabine, a DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) inhibitor, has been shown to effectively induce HbF production with a favorable safety profile.
