BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Serum calcium concentrations have been associated with bone mineral density (BMD), but results seem to depend on sex. Genetic variants in the Ryanodine Receptor1 (RYR1) gene have been previously associated with low BMD in postmenopausal women.
