Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) plays a role in substance use related neurotoxicity and addictive phenotypes. Inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production can prevent negative phenotypes associated with drugs intake. Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is an endogenous inhibitor of NOS.
