OBJECTIVES: Carbamazepine (CBZ) is one of the oldest, yet first line drugs for treating epilepsy. However, there is a large inter-individual difference in requirement of maintenance dose and one third of persons treated with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) exhibit drug resistance to therapy.
