INTRODUCTION: Leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter (VWM) is a rare autosomal recessive leukoencephalopathy resulting from mutations in EIF2B1-5, which encode subunits of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B (eIF2B).
