The pathological hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD) is the presence of Lewy bodies (LBs) with aggregated α-synuclein being the major component. The abnormal α-synuclein aggregates transfer between cells, recruit endogenous α-synuclein into toxic LBs, and finally trigger neuronal injury.
