Preeclampsia is a gestational disorder characterized by hypertension and proteinuria. Excessive release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, particularly tumour necrosis factor-alpha, has been demonstrated to contribute to endothelial activation and poor trophoblast invasion in placental development, resulting in preeclampsia's clinical symptoms.
