N-acetyl glucosamine-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (GlmU) is a bifunctional enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of Uridine diphosphate N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc). UDP-GlcNAc is a critical precursor for the synthesis of peptidoglycan and other cell wall components.
