Mal de Meleda is an autosomal recessive palmoplantar keratoderma associated with mutations in a gene encoding SLURP-1. SLURP-1 controls growth, differentiation, and apoptosis of keratinocytes by interaction with α7-type nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
