Atovaquone (ATQ) is a drug used to prevent and treat malaria that functions by targeting the Plasmodium falciparum cytochrome b (PfCytb) protein. PfCytb catalyzes the transmembrane electron transfer (ET) pathway which maintains the mitochondrial membrane potential.
