Asbestosis is a fibrosing interstitial pneumonitis, which can develop following occupational asbestos exposure and a lengthy latency period [1]. Even after strict regulations on the asbestos industry, an estimated 3400 individuals worldwide died as a consequence of asbestosis in 2017 [2]. The minor allele of MUC5B rs35705950 predisposes to asbestosis, but has no effect on survival
