BACKGROUND: Immune-dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, enteropathy, X-linked (IPEX) syndrome is a lethal disease caused by mutations in a transcription factor critical for the function of thymus-derived regulatory T (Treg) cells (ie, FOXP3), resulting in impaired Treg function and autoimmunity.
