As the COMT polymorphism is especially prominent in the prefrontal cortex and has been associated with auditory gating, we hypothesize that tinnitus patients with this polymorphism have altered activity in the ventromedial prefrontal/anterior cingulate areas that modulates the tinnitus percept.
