A deficiency in signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is responsible for autosomal dominant hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome, an immunodeficiency syndrome causing Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenzae, and, rarely, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Aspergillus sp infections.
