OBJECTIVE: Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an immune-mediated bleeding disorder in which platelets are opsonized by autoantibodies and destroyed by an Fc receptor-mediated phagocytosis by the reticuloendothelial system within the spleen.
