BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The cryopyrin-associated periodic fever syndrome (CAPS) is an autosomal dominant autoinflammatory disorder caused by mutations in the NLRP3 gene and is typified by recurrent episodes of systemic inflammation resulting in fever, urticarial rash and arthralgia.
