Rosuvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering drug that also attenuates the inflammatory process and oxidative stress via the reduction of superoxide anion production. Superoxide anions are metabolized by manganese-dependent superoxide dismutase (MnSOD or SOD2) in the mitochondria.
