Activation of the AKT/mTOR and Ras/MAPK pathways and the lipogenic phenotype are evident both in human hepatocellular carcinoma and in the rat model of insulin-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in the earliest preneoplastic lesions, i.e. clear cell foci (CCF) of altered hepatocytes.
