Threonine aldolase (TA) catalyzes a reversible reaction, in which threonine is decomposed into glycine and acetaldehyde. The same enzyme can be used to catalyze aldol reaction between glycine and a variety of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes, thus creating various alpha-amino-alcohols.
