The fimbriae of Porphyromonas gingivalis, the causative agent of periodontitis, have been implicated in various aspects of pathogenicity, such as colonization, adhesion and aggregation. Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 has two adhesins comprised of the FimA and Mfa1 fimbriae.
