In Escherichia coli, the level of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase is directly proportional to the cellular growth rate during growth in minimal media. This contrasts with the report by Winkler et al. (M. E. Winkler, J. R. Roth, and P. E. Hartman, J.
