PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The most encouraging recent advances regarding pharmacological agents for treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) are summarized. Emphasis is given to compounds acting downstream of dystrophin, the protein lacking in DMD, on cellular pathways leading to pathological consequences.
