Flavin-binding light, oxygen, and voltage (LOV) domains are UVA/blue-light-sensing protein units that form a reversible flavin mononucleotide-cysteine adduct upon light induction. In their dark-adapted state, LOV domains exhibit the typical spectral features of fully oxidized riboflavin derivatives.
