BACKGROUND: To establish novel islet-based therapies, our group has recently developed technologies to create a contiguous, monolayered sheet made from freshly dispersed islet cells. Islet cell sheets generated from freshly isolated cells are easily transplantable for engraftment into subcutaneous sites in rodents.
