INTRODUCTION: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a hyperinflammatory syndrome and has a varied genetic background. The polymorphism of interferon regulatory factor 5 gene (IRF5) was reported to be associated with susceptibility to macrophage activation syndrome.
