The enteric nervous system (ENS) regulates peristaltic movement of the gut, and abnormal ENS causes Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) in newborns. HSCR is a congenital complex genetic disorder characterised by a lack of enteric ganglia along a variable length of the intestine.
