Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is characterized by progressive dyspnea, interstitial infiltrates in lung parenchyma and restriction on pulmonary function testing. IPF is the most common and severe of the idiopathic interstitial pneumonias, with most individuals progressing to respiratory failure.
