Abstract excerpt
We identified and characterized a new Escherichia coli gene, htrC. Inactivation of the htrC gene results in the inability to form colonies at 42 degrees C. An identical bacterial phenotype is found whether the htrC gene is inactivated either by Tn5 insertions or by a deletion spanning the entire gene. The htrC gene has been localized at 90 min, immediately downstream of the rpoC gene, and has been previously...
