The cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (CDKN2A) gene on chromosome 9p21 encodes p16 (INK4A), the inhibitor of the CDK4/retinoblastoma (Rb) cell proliferation pathway, as well as p14 (ARF), which controls p53-dependent pathways.
