Hoodia gordonii extract consists of a mixture of steroid glycosides, fatty acids, plant sterols and alcohols. As part of the overall safety assessment H. gordonii extract was assessed for genotoxicity in two assays in vitro: a bacterial mutation assay; and a gene mutation assay using mouse lymphoma cells.
