PECAM-1/CD31 is a member of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily found on platelets, leukocytes, and endothelial cells, where it concentrates at cell-cell borders. It has been shown to both mediate cell-cell adhesion through homophilic and heterophilic interactions and to transduce intracellular signals that upregulate the function of integrins on leukocytes.
