Chemical mutagenesis of the phototrophic green microalga Parietochloris incisa, producing high amounts of arachidonic acid (ARA), resulted in selection of a mutant deficient in ARA and rich in dihomo-γ-linolenic acid (DGLA) and thus ∆5 desaturase defective.
