α7 Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7nAchRs) modulate immune activation by suppressing production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in peripheral immune cells. α7nAchRs also modulate inhibitory output in the hippocampus, which provides input to key circuits of the HPA axis.
